What We Do
People of all ages visit Jefferson Market Garden to enjoy the serenity of an open space and for our special programs. On Wednesday evenings from July to September, classical guitarist Eric Oxendine plays free "SummerMusic in the Garden." Senior groups can arrange "Vintage Villager" tours.
Some of the garden's biggest fans are children. At our Festival of Flowers in May, they parade through the garden. At our Fall Harvest Festival, children paint pumpkins and create their own bird feeders. We welcome school field trips from late March, when the garden is first waking up, till season's end in October. We teach youngsters about the transition from seed to flower, and about worms, composting, and soil. With our neighbor, the Jefferson Market Library, we offer storybook readings in the garden Thursday mornings in season.
Jefferson Market Garden is happy to host wedding ceremonies in spring and summer. Couples can join a growing list of New Yorkers that includes Miranda and Steve from 'Sex and the City' and take their vows on the garden's lush center lawn. We can accommodate up to 85 guests and are able to take last-minute reservations. |
