Support
Jefferson Market Garden

For 50 years, Jefferson Market Garden has been your oasis in the heart of Greenwich Village, offering a space of enduring beauty.

Your support ensures this beloved garden continues to flourish for generations to come.

Why Your Gift Matters

Horticultural & Plant Stewardship

Your donation supports the cultivation and stewardship of Jefferson Market Garden’s landscape.

  • Expert Garden Design: Since 1999, our horticulturist, Susan Sipos, has curated a blend of native and ornamental species, reflecting seasonal beauty throughout the year.

  • Sustainable Practices: Our commitment to organic gardening methods ensures a healthy and thriving environment for future generations.

  • Special Botanical Projects: A dedication to nurturing unique plant species such as the compass plant, which took seven years to flourish and helps sustain our pond ecosystem, helps diversify the Garden.

Environmental Stewardship & Wildlife Habitat

Your help allows us to maintain an ecosystem designed for all living things, from people to birds to frogs.

  • Certified Wildlife Habitat: A safe and nurturing environment for birds, bees, butterflies, and urban wildlife.

  • Designed for Migration: Seasonal plantings and habitat features support migratory birds and pollinators on their journeys.

  • Pollinator-Friendly Plantings: Native species like milkweed provide essential food sources for monarch butterflies and bees.

  • Pond Ecosystem: A critical water source sustains birds, butterflies, amphibians, and fish, enriching the biodiversity of the garden.

  • Sustainable Soil Enrichment: Our innovative worm composting program enhances soil health, creating a thriving balance for plants and wildlife alike.

Education

Your generosity helps us inspire and educate.

  • School Programs: Children from local public schools aged 2–10 explore plant life, the garden cycle, and environmental stewardship through hands-on activities like butterfly and ladybug releases, scavenger hunts, and planting projects

  • Senior Outreach: Workshops provide meaningful opportunities for seniors to engage with nature and neighbors.

  • Special Presentations: Guest speakers from all over the city share their expertise on issues from gardens to the environment to history.

Daily Operations

Your contributions ensure that our team can maintain the Garden for all to enjoy.

  • Welcoming thousands of local and global visitors annually, with 2,500-3,800 visitors weekly during our season.

  • Keeping gates open, fountains clean, and community spaces safe and inviting.

  • Offering essentials like dog water bowls and treats, and stickers for young visitors.

Community Impact

Jefferson Market Garden is more than a garden—it is the heart of our neighborhood.

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Neighbors and friends work side by side, fostering and nurturing the Garden.

  • Free Public Events: Our concerts, seasonal celebrations, and annual family pumpkin giveaway bring neighbors together, creating moments of connection.

  • Senior Socialization: A welcoming environment where older adults can engage with nature, participate as a volunteer, and connect with others in a meaningful way.

Whether it’s a quiet moment on a bench or a spontaneous conversation among visitors, the Garden remains your oasis in Greenwich Village.
